HISTORY
Malnkara Mar Thoma Syrian Church was pioneer in the field of education after the great reformation in the Malankara Church and the renaissance in the Kerala Society. Due to the influence of the missionaries, the 19th century witnessed drastic changes in the Kerala society due to the spreading of primary education. Along with the evangelistic witness, the Mar Thoma Church started primary Schools where the downtrodden communities had been admitted. Caste system was being questioned.
For the training of the teachers in the Primary Schools, The Mar Thoma Church started St. Thomas TTI, Thiruvalla under the patronage of Most Rev. Titus I Mar Thoma in June, 1925 (Order No. 5358/ 1.6.1925). His Grace the metropolitan inaugurated. It was intended to train those who passed 7th Malayalam.
Later on the TTI was upgraded as one of the Under Graduate Training School among the three such Institutions permitted in the State. The students were those who passed MALAYALAM Higher and SSLC.
In 1944,Lower Grade Training was stopped and TTC was started for those who passed SSLC.
In 1958, two year training course was started.
In 1995, Sapthathy Memorial building construction was started and dedicated in 1999. TTI celebrated Platinum Jubilee in 1999 and Navathy in 2015.
Later on the TTI was upgraded as one of the Under Graduate Training School among the three such Institutions permitted in the State. The students were those who passed MALAYALAM Higher and SSLC.
